Background: 2019 Lok Sabha Elections and Seat Sharing in Maharashtra

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Maharashtra witnessed a fiercely contested battle among various political parties. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena contested the elections as allies under the banner of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

In the seat-sharing agreement between the BJP and Shiv Sena for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP contested on 25 seats, while the Shiv Sena fielded candidates on 23 seats. The alliance emerged victorious, securing a significant mandate in Maharashtra.

However, following differences over the distribution of ministerial portfolios and other issues, the alliance between the BJP and Shiv Sena ended, leading to a realignment of political dynamics in Maharashtra.

Subsequently, the Shiv Sena formed a government in Maharashtra in alliance with the NCP and Congress, with Uddhav Thackeray assuming the role of Chief Minister.

The upcoming 2024 Maharashtra Lok Sabha elections are poised to be a crucial battleground for political parties, with each vying to secure a strong mandate and shape the state’s political future.
