Lok Sabha Election 2024: Nomination Process Begins for 102 Seats Across 21 States

The commencement of the nomination process for 102 Lok Sabha seats across 21 states of the country began today, March 20. The Election Commission has issued a formal notification regarding this process. The voting is scheduled for April 19, marking the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

Seat Distribution Across States

Among these 102 seats, Tamil Nadu contributes 39, Rajasthan 12, and Madhya Pradesh 6. The Election Commission had previously disclosed the election dates during a press conference on March 16.

Nomination Timeline

As per the Election Commission’s notification, the deadline for filing nominations is March 27, with scrutiny scheduled for March 28. The withdrawal of nominations is permitted until March 20.

Schedule Alteration for Bihar

Due to festivities in Bihar, the nomination deadline has been extended to March 28, with scrutiny set for March 30. Candidates from Bihar can withdraw their nominations until April 2.

First Phase Lok Sabha Elections in Madhya Pradesh

Voting for the 6 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh, namely Sidhi, Shahdol, Jabalpur, Mandla, Balaghat, and Chhindwara, will be conducted on April 19. The nomination process for these seats begins on March 20. While the BJP has announced its candidates, the Congress has finalized its candidates only for Sidhi, Mandla, and Chhindwara.

Uttar Pradesh Nomination on 8 Seats

The nomination process for the 8 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh—Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nagina, Moradabad, Rampur, and Pilibhit—commences on Wednesday. Independent candidates can initially file nominations as parties are yet to declare candidates for some seats.

Rajasthan’s 12 Seat Nomination Process

The nomination process is commencing for 12 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan—Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Nagaur, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur, Jaipur Rural, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, and Karauli-Dholpur. Candidates from BJP and Congress in several constituencies are yet to be announced.

First Phase Elections in Bihar on 4 Seats

Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, and Jamui constitute the 4 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar for the first phase of elections. The nomination process for these seats starts on Wednesday, with NDA and the INDI alliance yet to announce their candidates.
