Lucknow Super Giants endured a devastating loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. Despite posting a modest total of 165 – 4 in their allotted 20 overs, LSG struggled to contain Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who dominated their bowling attack as Sunrisers clinched victory by 10 wickets in a mere 9.4 overs.
KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bat, but the Lucknow Super Giants’ batsmen found it tough to get into rhythm. Their struggle was evident as they only managed to hit their first boundary in the 10th over, with a couple of sixes coming later on.
Skipper KL Rahul had a rough time, registering a disappointing 29 runs off 33 balls. It was Nicholas Pooran (48 off 26) and Ayush Badoni (55 off 30) who salvaged the innings, allowing LSG to surpass the 150-run mark.
Despite the sluggish pitch, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma unleashed a merciless onslaught, leaving LSG reeling. Travis Head finished unbeaten on 89 off just 30 deliveries, while Abhishek Sharma hammered 75 runs off 28 balls.
Meanwhile, LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance. A video circulating on social media captures Goenka admonishing KL Rahul, though the specific reason for his reaction remains unclear. This has sparked discontent among KL Rahul’s supporters, who disapprove of Goenka’s treatment towards the captain.
Responding to the defeat, KL Rahul remarked that if LSG had managed to set a higher target, Sunrisers Hyderabad could have chased even 240 runs.
