Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has urged the Election Commission to take cognizance of a situation where the university authorities reportedly allowed a meeting to be held on campus, despite a blanket ban on such activities. The governor, who has been at odds with the state government over various appointments in state universities, stated that the university authorities had informed him that no meetings were permitted inside the university campus at that time.
Governor Khan criticized the protests by the SFI, which he alleges are a joint venture with the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), and accused the Kerala Higher Education Minister R Bindu of disregarding the law and showing a lack of respect towards the court. He also reiterated that he would not be intimidated by such protests and emphasized that the law would take its course regarding the illegalities that occurred.
In a separate incident, Governor Khan staged a sit-in protest over the police’s failure to prevent a black flag demonstration at his motorcade. The governor has been critical of the state government and has recently withdrawn as Chancellor of Universities, citing discord between the governor and the government
