The Garib Rath trains are undergoing an upgrade with the introduction of new AC 3-tier economy class coaches. The Garib Rath trains are a series of no-frills trains operated by Indian Railways to provide air-conditioned train travel at a cheaper rate compared to regular trains.
AC Economy Coaches
These new coaches will be dedicated to the AC-3 economy class in Garib Rath trains, aimed at making AC travel more affordable by offering lower fares. Enhancements in design and appearance include illuminated seat numbers and the use of fireproof materials. Furthermore, the redesigned AC duct ensures individual vents for each berth, improving airflow and comfort.
Seating Capacity
Replacing the old coaches launched during the tenure of former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, the new economy 3AC coaches aim to provide more seating options for passengers at a lower fare.
The new AC Economy class coaches will accommodate 83 seats, an increase from the previous 72 berths in the old 3-AC coaches.
Implementation Timeline
The replacement of existing coaches with the new AC Economy coaches has commenced, with confirmation on the IRCTC booking page as of April 10, 2024. Currently, two trains have been upgraded with AC-3 economy LHB rake.
