On Monday, ICICI Bank, the second-largest private sector lender, revealed that it now allows its NRI clients to utilize their international mobile numbers for instant UPI payments within India.
The bank stated that through this service, their NRI clientele can conveniently settle utility bills, conduct merchant transactions, and engage in e-commerce using their international mobile numbers linked to their NRE/NRO bank accounts in India. This feature is accessible via their mobile banking app, iMobile Pay.
Previously, NRIs were required to register an Indian mobile number with their banks to facilitate UPI payments.
This feature operates through the National Payments Corporation network and is accessible in 10 countries, including the US, the UAE, Britain, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. To avail themselves of this service, customers simply need to scan any Indian QR code, transfer funds to a UPI ID, or send money to any Indian mobile number or bank account.
Sidharatha Mishra, the head of digital channels at the bank, stressed that this introduction underscores their dedication to offering innovative solutions for NRI clients, ensuring a secure and convenient payment experience.
