Amidst the political heat building up in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President, DK Shivakumar, has accused the BJP government of using the Income Tax (IT) department to target the Opposition. Shivakumar’s statement comes in response to the recent IT notices served to the Congress party, including one to him personally, which he claims is for a matter already settled.
Speaking on the issue, DK Shivakumar said, “There is democracy in this country. There is a law. The BJP government is directing the officials and taking this kind of action… They are targeting the Opposition, which means they are afraid of the Congress and the INDIA Alliance. The INDIA Alliance is going to defeat the NDA. The BJP has understood this weakness. They know they will lose the elections. Hence they are trying to create fear.”
The Deputy CM’s remarks highlight the escalating tensions between the Congress and the BJP ahead of the upcoming elections. Shivakumar’s assertion that the BJP is resorting to tactics of fear and intimidation due to perceived electoral vulnerability adds a new dimension to the political discourse in Karnataka.
The Congress has been a vocal critic of the BJP government at the Centre, accusing it of using central agencies for political vendetta against its opponents. The recent IT notices to the Congress party and its leaders seem to have further fueled these allegations.
As the political battle intensifies, the role of central agencies and their alleged politicization is likely to become a key point of contention. The Congress, under the leadership of DK Shivakumar, is gearing up to counter these challenges and make a strong electoral showing in Karnataka.
