Political Dynamics

Uttarakhand has a history of being a battleground state, witnessing intense electoral contests between the BJP and Congress. Both parties regard Uttarakhand as pivotal for advancing their national agendas and securing electoral triumphs.

Election Schedule and Importance:

Uttarakhand is set to vote in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, with polling scheduled for five Lok Sabha constituencies. In the 2019 polls, the BJP secured all five seats in Uttarakhand, capturing a significant 61.7% of the total votes.

Past Electoral Performance

The BJP’s dominance in Uttarakhand extends beyond the Lok Sabha elections, as evidenced by its clean sweep of all seats in both the 2014 and 2019 polls. Additionally, in the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the front-runner, securing 47 out of 70 assembly seats. In contrast, the Congress managed to secure only 19 seats, with the BSP and Independents each holding two seats.

As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the unveiling of star campaigners by the Congress underscores the party’s determination to pose a formidable challenge against the BJP in Uttarakhand.
