China has responded for the second time in two days following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interview with Newsweek magazine, where he expressed optimism about restoring peace and tranquility at the India-China border through positive bilateral engagement.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that both China and India have made significant progress in resolving the border standoff, maintaining close communication through diplomatic and military channels. Mao emphasized the importance of stable and peaceful relations between the two countries, asserting that they serve the interests of the entire region and the world.
Hope for Healthy and Stable Relations
Mao expressed China’s hope for India to collaborate in managing differences and promoting bilateral relations in a healthy and stable manner. She underscored the significance of trust-building, dialogue, cooperation, and appropriate handling of differences to establish a sound and stable relationship.
Both countries have been in close communication through diplomatic and military channels to address border-related issues and have witnessed positive progress. Mao reiterated China’s stance that the boundary question should be appropriately managed within the broader context of bilateral relations.
The relations between India and China have remained strained since the eastern Ladakh border standoff in May 2020, leading to a frozen state in bilateral relations, except for trade ties. Despite the challenges, both countries continue to engage in dialogue and strive for resolution to maintain peace and stability in the region.
