In a significant move to enhance renewable energy sources, the Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) has announced its intent to invite Request for Proposal (RFP) from prospective Solar PV Plant Developers (SPD) for a grid-connected Canal Banks Solar PV Project with a cumulative capacity of 20 MW (AC). This initiative aligns with the Bihar Policy for Promotion of New and Renewable Energy Sources, 2017, and reflects the state government’s commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions
The successful bidder will be responsible for the complete operation and maintenance of the solar plant throughout the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) period. PPA contracts will be established between the Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) and the selected bidder, who will also be tasked with obtaining the necessary connectivity for the project.
The five locations shortlisted for the Canal Bank Solar Plant installations are:
- Left Kamla Balan Embankment, Flood Control Division, Madhepur, Madhubani
Length: 62 km to 66 km - Right Kamla Balan Embankment, Flood Control Division, Tardih, Darbhanga
Length: 60 km to 64 km - Western Link Canal, Sone Barrage Division, Indrapuri, Rohtas
Length: 0.00 km to 1.5 km (on right embankment) - Saran Main Canal, Gopalganj
Length: 0.00 km to 17.00 km - Western Koshi Main Canal Division, Khutauna, Madhubani
Length: 35.13 km to 45.13 km
This initiative is expected to not only bolster the state’s renewable energy capacity but also contribute to sustainable development goals by utilizing underused canal banks for solar power generation.
