The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the selection of developers for the development, design, construction, financing, procurement, engineering, operation, and maintenance of Silo Complexes at various locations in Bihar. These projects will be carried out under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model.

The RFP covers both Hub Silo Complexes, which will include Container Depots, and Spoke Silo Complexes without Container Depots. The Hub Silo Complexes will be equipped with rail connectivity and container handling facilities, aimed at improving logistical efficiency in grain transportation.

The key project locations, capacities, and estimated costs are as follows:

Hub Silo Complex with Container Depot:

    • Muzaffarpur: 50,000 MT capacity
    • Motihari (East Champaran): 50,000 MT capacity

Spoke Silo Complex without Container Depot:

      • Vaishali: 25,000 MT capacity
      • Chapra (Saran): 25,000 MT capacity
      • Siwan: 25,000 MT capacity

The total combined storage capacity across these complexes will be 1,75,000 MT, with an overall estimated project cost exceeding ₹226 crore. Interested developers are required to submit their bids, which will be evaluated based on both technical and financial criteria. The selected developers will be responsible for all aspects of the project, including design, construction, operation, and maintenance.

This project is a crucial part of modernizing India’s food storage infrastructure, helping to reduce post-harvest losses and ensure efficient grain management in Bihar.
