EC Orders Immediate Transfer of Andhra Pradesh DGP, New Appointment by Monday

The Election Commission has instructed the Andhra Pradesh government to promptly transfer Director General of Police K V Rajendranath Reddy.

The commission has asked the state government to provide three names of officers holding the rank of DGP; a new DGP will be appointed by 11 am on Monday. The specific reason for the poll body’s decision has not been immediately disclosed.

Reddy, a 1992-batch IPS officer, assumed the role of DGP of Andhra Pradesh in February 2022, succeeding D Gautam Sawang.

Simultaneous elections for the 175-member Assembly and the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled for May 13, with vote counting set for June 4.
