A distressing incident captured on CCTV, a German Shepherd lunged at a 6-year-old girl within the premises of Ajnara Integrity Housing Society in Ghaziabad. Despite being restrained by a leash, the dog managed to bite the child on her arm, evoking concerns about safety within residential complexes.

The CCTV footage revealed the harrowing moment when the young girl, innocently riding her bicycle, became the target of the German Shepherd’s aggression. Despite efforts by its owner to control the dog, the situation escalated as the child faced imminent danger. The swift action of the girl’s mother and the intervention of a security guard averted a potentially grave outcome.

Response and Legal Action

Following the incident, Namita Chauhan, the mother of the victim, lodged a complaint with the police, highlighting the absence of a muzzle on the dog during the attack. Ms. Chauhan also asserted that the same dog had previously attacked her one-year-old son, although this wasn’t captured on camera. Seeking justice and preventive measures, she demanded the removal of the dog from the society premises to ensure the safety of residents.

Concerns and Preceding Incidents

This alarming event adds to a series of dog attacks reported in Ghaziabad recently. Just weeks prior, a 15-year-old boy sustained critical injuries after being mauled by a neighbour’s Pit Bull. These incidents underscore the urgent need for stricter regulations and enforcement to prevent such occurrences.

Government Action

In response to the escalating cases of pet dog attacks, the central government had directed states to ban the sale and breeding of 23 breeds of aggressive dogs, including Pit Bull Terriers, American Bulldogs, Rottweilers, and Mastiffs. This directive aims to address the rising concerns surrounding public safety and mitigate the risks posed by potentially dangerous breeds.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the enforcement of regulations to safeguard communities. As authorities investigate the matter and residents demand accountability, there is a pressing need for comprehensive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure the well-being of all members of society.
