Sushil Modi Reveals Battle with Cancer, Steps Back from Political Engagements Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

Sushil Kumar Modi, the ex-Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, has been battling cancer for the past six months. Consequently, he won't be able to engage in any party activities during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, nor can he participate in campaigning for any candidate.

Sushil Kumar Modi, the ex-Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, has been battling cancer for the past six months. Consequently, he won’t be able to engage in any party activities during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, nor can he participate in campaigning for any candidate.

Sushil Modi disclosed this information via the social media platform X on Wednesday. In his post, he revealed, “I have been battling cancer for the past six months. I now believe it is time to share this with everyone. Regrettably, I won’t be able to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. I have informed the Prime Minister about my situation. I remain ever grateful and committed to serving the nation, Bihar, and the party.”

Sushil Modi’s Political Career Highlights

Sushil Modi, a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party, has demonstrated robust leadership throughout his political career. He has held esteemed positions in various legislative bodies, including the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Bihar Assembly, and Legislative Council.

Over the course of three consecutive terms from 1990 to 2004, Sushil Modi served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), during which he also assumed the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly. In 2004, he secured a seat as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Bhagalpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Notably, Sushil Modi held the dual responsibilities of Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Bihar from November 2005 to June 2013 and again from July 2017 to November 2020.

Additionally, he served as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council for three consecutive terms from 2006 to 2020. During the period between June 2013 and July 2017, he fulfilled the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council.

In December 2020, Sushil Modi was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha. His tenure in this capacity concluded recently, on April 2nd.
