Jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari dies of cardiac arrest

Former MLA Mukhtar Ansari passed away on Thursday night after suffering a heart attack. Ansari, who was lodged in Banda jail, was rushed to Rani Durgavati Medical College at around 8:25 pm after he reportedly vomited and lost consciousness in his barrack.

Banda Medical College issues a Medical Bulletin announcing the death of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari at 8:25 pm today.

Hospital authorities reported that despite the efforts of nine doctors, Ansari could not be revived.

Following Ansari’s death, security has been heightened across Uttar Pradesh. Section 144, which prohibits public assembly, has been imposed in Mau and Ghazipur districts. Banda jail, where Ansari was incarcerated, has also been placed under special security measures with a significant deployment of police personnel. The DGP headquarters has issued a directive for increased vigilance throughout the state.

Samajwadi party paid tribute to Mukhtar Ansari

Ansari’s health had shown signs of deterioration earlier this week, leading to a 14-hour hospitalization on Tuesday. Just days before his passing, Ansari had reportedly raised concerns about being poisoned in prison.

Mukhtar Ansari had been serving a life sentence since 2005 for multiple criminal convictions.
